Clear Lake, the largest natural lake in California*, is the annual site of the Konocti Cup. This year, I brought a couple of other Bay Area sailors to race a borrowed Capri 25 against two sister vessels. Previously, the event has attracted Moore 24, Express 27, and Wabbit fleets in addition to the local representation. Sometimes the air is light. This time we had pretty continuous mid teens and better for wind with a few lighter spots as may be expected for lake sailing with nice flat water. The Wylie Wabbit entry 24 Karat won the long course.
The Konocti Bay Sailing Club hosts are very welcoming. A variety of launch sites for trailer boats and possibilities for lodging including a great state park with cabins round out the experience.
Next year is the 40th anniversary of the event and I hope to be back.
*Careful phrasing: Lake Tahoe is shared with Nevada and the Salton Sea isn’t natural
